Description
Description
Emmeline is a blend of modern and old world design. The blue and white floral motifs were reproduced from Chinese Export porcelain circa 1755, a new look for the factories at that time. Drawings were sent to China to instruct artists in European style decoration to accommodate the changing tastes of the West. One French merchant wrote "Send no more dragons, but let us have flowers instead." Emmeline's plate shapes are contemporary, while the styling is on French white body, a departure from the classic Chinese gray body porcelain.
